Transfer news LIVE!
Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United all have one eye on completing more deals before the summer transfer window closes as the new Premier League season gets underway tonight. The Gunners remain interested in Eberechi Eze but will have to act fast with rivals Tottenham said to be preparing an opening offer.
The Alexander Isak to Liverpool transfer saga has taken a fresh twist with the Newcastle star now on strike in an attempt to force through a move. Meanwhile the reigning champions are closing in on a deal for Parma central defender Giovanni Leoni and could yet sign Marc Guehi as well as Rodrygo because the Real Madrid forward is thought to favour a move to Anfield despite interest from elsewhere.
Man United have reportedly agreed a fee with Brighton for Carlos Baleba and could partially fund a deal by selling Jadon Sancho to Roma permanently. Elsewhere, Chelsea are making progress in their efforts to land Alejandro Garnacho and Spurs want to sign Man City winger Savinho in addition to Eze. Tottenham target Leverkusen centre-back Hincapie
17:53 , Alex Dakers
Tottenham are said to have identified Piero Hincapie as a “favoured transfer target”.
Spurs insider Paul O’Keefe says there is an appreciation that any deal for the 23-year-old left sided centre-back – currently under contract at Bayer Leverkusen until 2029 – will be “difficult” and involve a “large fee”.
However, both manager and club are said to se the Ecuadorian as an “ideal candidate”.
Dortmund approach City for Echeverri
17:45 , Alex Dakers
With Chelsea still pushing back on their Carney Chukwuemeka proposals, Borussia Dortmund appear to have shifted focus to another young Premier League talent.
According to Sky Sports Germany, the Bundesliga side have now reportedly submitted an offer to Manchester City for Claudio Echeverri.
Dortmund are again keen on a loan deal with an option to buy for the 19-year-old, who is under contract with City until 2028.
Other teams including Girona are believed to be monitoring Echeverri’s situation as well.
The Argentine impressed at the Club World Cup for City but is currently injured.
DONE DEAL!
17:32 , Alex Dakers
Liverpool have officially announced the signing of Italian centre-back Giovanni Leoni.
The 18-year-old has arrived from Parma for a reported fee of £26million plus add-ons, and is not expected to be loaned out – instead becoming an instant option for Arne Slot’s backline.
Notably, his arrival takes Liverpool’s total summer spending above the £300m mark.
The Reds’ business has reached £321.5m in paid transfer fees so far, which is currently the third-biggest transfer outlay from a Premier League club in a single window.
Speaking to the club’s website upon his unveiling, Leoni said: “I want to improve a lot with my new teammates in training and after on the pitch, in the Premier League and the Champions League.
“I’ll watch the game [against Bournemouth at Anfield tonight] in the stadium, see the game and then after the game it’s a new journey.”
Forest still keen on Man City full-back Rico Lewis
17:25 , Alex Dakers
Nottingham Forest are said to remain keen on Manchester City full-back Rico Lewis.
There were reports earlier this week that Forest saw an initial bid for the 20-year-old rejected, but the Tricky Trees could be back in for Lewis now having already agreed a deal for fellow City youngster James McAtee.
Lewis – who featured heavily in all competitions under Pep Guardiola last season but may now have fallen behind Matheus Nunes in the pecking order at right-back – is said to be valued in excess of £30million, per Daily Mail Sport.
City have been trying to tie the young defender down to a new deal but have yet to succeed, and are thought to be open to his departure if a good offer is presented.
Having inserted a sell-on and buyback clause in Forest’s deal for McAtee, who only made three Premier League starts last season before captaining England’s Under 21s to European Championship glory over the summer, City would likely demand similar clauses for Lewis.
Chelsea reject Dortmund’s ‘insulting’ Chukwuemeka bid
17:11 , Alex Dakers
That new bid – about €20million (£17m) purchase price after a loan, with a “heavy” sell-on clause – from Borussia Dortmund for Carney Chukwuemeka?
“Immediately rejected” by Chelsea, apparently.
That comes from Fabrizio Romano, who says the Blues are far from happy with Dortmund’s proposal of a loan with obligation to buy.
Chelsea reportedly view the offer as “insulting” because other clubs have approached them regarding a permanent transfer for the 21-year-old midfielder, who spent the second half of last season on loan with Dortmund and is said to be keen on a return to the Bundesliga side.
However, Sky Sports says Chelsea were disappointed with Chukwuemeka’s usage during that last loan spell, which saw him make 17 appearances.
The broadcaster adds that no loan offers will therefore be considered for the player, and that instead bids closer to his £40m pound release clause – with add ons and a sell on fee included – are more likely to turn heads at Stamford Bridge.
Forest agree personal terms with Luiz
17:00 , Alex Dakers
Nottingham Forest are said to have agreed personal terms with Douglas Luiz and are accelerating talks with Juventus for the Brazilian.
The former Aston Villa midfielder is the latest in a slew of potential new arrivals at the City Ground over the last day or so, with Ipswich Town winger Omari Hutchinson and Manchester City midfielder James McAtee also agreeing deals last night with the Tricky Trees, who are reportedly closing in on a move for Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo as well.
Juve, meanwhile, are thought to be eyeing Brighton’s Matt O’Riley as their main option to replace Luiz.
Ederson to miss City’s Wolves trip
16:45 , Alex Dakers
As well as Tottenham target Savinho, who Pep Guardiola said earlier will be out injured for a “few weeks”, goalkeeper Ederson will also miss out on Manchester City’s trip to Wolves this weekend.
The City boss confirmed the Brazilian shot-stopper would be absent from his matchday squad at Molineux, with that update coming amid reports of transfer interest from clubs including Galatasaray.
It also comes as the Sky Blues consider a possible move for Gianluigi Donnarumma, who no longer a part of Paris Saint-Germain’s future plans.
But with nothing agreed for the Italian yet, could we see James Trafford start in goal for City this weekend after his return from Burnley?
DONE DEAL!
16:30 , Alex Dakers
As we reported earlier, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has now completed his move to Leeds United.
The 28-year-old England international left Everton upon the expiration of his contract earlier this summer, and has now signed a three-year deal with the newly-promoted Whites as a free agent.
Dortmund place new bid for Chelsea’s Chukwuemeka
16:20 , Alex Dakers
Borussia Dortmund have submitted a new bid to Chelsea for Carney Chukwuemeka.
Fabrizio Romano says Dortmund’s proposal is worth about €20million (£17m) on loan with an obligation to buy plus a “heavy sell-on clause”.
Chukwuemeka, 21, spent the second half of last season on loan with Dortmund and is said to be keen on returning to the club.
Man Utd loan Collyer to West Brom
16:10 , Alex Dakers
Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer has completed a season-long loan move to West Bromwich Albion.
The 21-year-old made 13 first-team appearances for the Red Devils last season, including his Premier League debut against Liverpool last September, and was involved in pre-season with Ruben Amorim’s side.
He is thought to have a future at Old Trafford, with no buy option believed to have been included in his loan to the Baggies.
Sunderland agree £12m fee for PSG defender Mukiele
16:00 , Alex Dakers
Sunderland have reportedly agreed a £12million deal for Paris Saint-Germain defender Nordi Mukiele.
The Black Cats will pay an initial £9.5m plus £2.5m in add-ons for the 27-year-old Frenchman, Sky Sports has reported.
Mukiele, who spent last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, has been given permission to travel to Sunderland for a medical.
He is set to become the newly-promoted side’s 11th summer signing, taking their total spending to nearly £150m.
New Arsenal signings Gyokeres and Zubimendi fit for Old Trafford trip
15:45 , Alex Dakers
Mikel Arteta has confirmed that three key names will likely be fit to face Manchester United in Arsenal’s Premier League opener.
The trio are summer signings Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi, plus the potentially exit-bound Leandro Trossard.
Arteta said that he expected Trossard, who has been suffering from a groin injury, to train tomorrow, and if that was the case, then the forward would be fit enough to travel with the squad to Old Trafford on Sunday.
However, the Belgian’s future at the club remains uncertain as Arsenal look to sanction departures in the closing weeks of the transfer window, potentially to fund a bid for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.
Guardiola: Spurs target Savinho out for “a few weeks”
15:32 , Alex Dakers
Tottenham target Savinho will miss out on Manchester City’s trip to Wolves this weekend through injury, Pep Guardiola has revealed.
The Brazilian winger, 21, is being pursued by Spurs as the new Premier League season looms, and City boss Guardiola confirmed on Friday that the player would be absent from his squad at Molineux this weekend.
Rather than being due to speculation over his future, though, the Spanish manager said Savinho’s omission from City’s matchday squad is down to an unspecified injury he picked up against Palmero, the Serie B side his team beat 3-0 last weekend in their final pre-season friendly of the summer.
Savinho started the second half of that match and was not reported as an injury doubt until Friday’s pre-match press conference, but Guardiola said he is now expected to be out for “a few weeks”.

Glasner: Eze and Guehi will both start season with Palace
14:25 , Alex Dakers
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has announced that Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi will both start the season at Selhurst Park despite continued rumours surrounding both Eagles stars’ futures.

Man Utd sign Barcelona’s Rolfo
14:10 , Alex Dakers
Manchester United have signed Sweden international Fridolina Rolfo on a contract until June 2027.
The deal, subject to registration, concludes Rolfo’s four years at FC Barcelona, where she won two UEFA Champions Leagues and four Primera Division titles.
Rolfo, 31, reached 100 caps and 33 goals for Sweden during last month’s Uefa Women’s European Championships.
A left-sided player equally comfortable in attack or defence, she has 113 goals in 313 senior club appearances for past sides including Barcelona, VfL Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich.
Amorim: Hojlund ‘still an option’ at Man Utd
14:00 , Alex Dakers
Rasmus Hojlund is “still an option” at Manchester United, according to Ruben Amorim, despite rumours that the Dane is nearing a move to AC Milan.
United manager Amorim declined to utilise Hojlund in several pre-season matches, particularly once the club were in talks for new striker Benjamin Sesko, leaving the Danish forward on the verge of a loan move elsewhere, with several Serie A clubs said to be interested.
But in his press conference previewing the Red Devils’ season-opening match against Arsenal, Amorim said of Hojlund: “He’s one more option. We will see.
“We are focused on this game and Rasmus is still an option.”
Might Hojlund be in line to start against the Gunners, to allow Sesko – who is yet to feature for United since his arrival – to come off the bench following a disrupted pre-season of his own?
Amorim also had this to say of his new frontman: “We didn’t have a lot of time but [Sesko] is ready, physically he is ready, that is a big component in our league.
“He is ready to play, we will see if he is going to start.”
Spurs £7m short of Palace’s Eze valuation
13:55 , Alex Dakers
Tottenham are reportedly £7million short of what Crystal Palace want for their English playmaker Eberechi Eze.
The 27-year-old is also being pursued by Arsenal, and has a £68m release clause at Selhurst Park which is believed to expire today.
According to previous reports Palace are expected to hold out for a bid of around that value, with The Independent’s Miguel Delaney revealing that Spurs are currently several million short in their valuation of the player.
Chelsea reject Dortmund’s Chukwuemeka offer
13:50 , Alex Dakers
Chelsea are understood to have rejected an offer from Borussia Dortmund for Carney Chukwuemeka.
The Bundesliga side – where Chukwuemeka, 21, spent the second half of last season on loan – proposed a loan with a £15million purchase obligation for the midfielder, per Sky Sports.
He is one of several players the Blues are looking to offload before the end of the transfer window, and is reportedly keen to return to Dortmund.
Leeds in ‘advanced talks’ for Leicester full-back Justin
13:45 , Alex Dakers
Leeds are also reportedly in advanced talks with Leicester City for James Justin.
Sky Sports says the two sides are currently discussing a fee for the 27-year-old full-back, who has a year left on his contract.
Justin can operate as a left or right-back, and his arrival is expected to open the door for Issac Schmidt to depart amid interest from Werder Bremen.
Calvert-Lewin joins Leeds as free agent
13:35 , Alex Dakers
Dominic Calvert-Lewin will join Leeds United on a free transfer, Daniel Farke has announced.
The Leeds boss confirmed in his press conference this afternoon that the 28-year-old would be arriving at Elland Road after leaving Everton upon the expiration of his contract earlier this summer.
“We have not officially announced it [but] from this afternoon he will be a member of our squad,” Farke said on Friday.
“We are pretty happy and we are all delighted that Dominic will wear a Leeds shirt. Dominic is a proven player at Premier League level. He’s a really good age and is really proven at Premier League.
“His last few seasons have been interrupted by injuries but he played 26 games last season. It’s a chance for him to revive his career and reach former heights at Premier League level. We will build his fitness step by step and build his confidence.”
Arsenal complete recruitment process with new U21 head coach
13:30 , Alex Dakers
Arsenal have concluded the process of appointing a new under-21 head coach to replace Mehmet Ali.
The club have opted to continue their history of promoting from within, by announcing Max Porter has taken the role as Arsenal under-21s’s new head coach ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
Porter worked as an assistant to Ali last season and also took charge of the Under-19s during their UEFA Youth League games.
Standard Sport understands Jack Wilshere was a strong candidate to replace Ali – who joined Brentford’s first-team coaching staff last month – during Arsenal’s recruitment process.
However, as reported elsewhere Wilshere decided against a return and is now expected to pursue his coaching career in senior football.

Arteta under pressure to deliver title after big summer at Arsenal
13:20 , Alex Dakers
Stood on the pitch at Emirates Stadium at the end of last season, Mikel Arteta cut a defiant figure.
For the third year in a row, Arsenal had fallen just short in their quest to win the Premier League, and Arteta was determined to lift the mood of fans ahead of the summer break.
The Spaniard told supporters to “chase the dream” of lifting a trophy and vowed that his squad would return renewed in their pursuit.
Arteta’s words set the tone for what has been a busy summer for Arsenal, who have signed six players for an outlay of around £200million.
Now, the pressure is on the gaffer and his squad to deliver, and what better place to start their quest than against Manchester United Old Trafford on Sunday, writes Simon Collings.

Carragher says Arsenal ‘stole’ £51m signing from Liverpool
13:10 , Alex Dakers
Jamie Carragher has said that Martin Zubimendi had agreed to join Liverpool, before Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta “stole him”.
Zubimendi was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool last summer, but the Spain international opted to stay one more season at Real Sociedad, helping them reach the Copa del Rey semi-final and the Europa League round of 16.
The midfielder has, however, made the move to England this summer as he completed a £51million transfer to Arsenal despite reported interest from Real Madrid – now managed by his idol Xabi Alonso.
Zubimendi has impressed during pre-season and looks set to strike up a formidable partnership with Declan Rice and Martin Odeegard in the middle of the park at the Emirates.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Carragher has revealed how close Zubimendi was to joining Liverpool a year ago and believes Arteta had a huge role to play in the decision to reject a switch.

Bournemouth eyeing Liverpool’s Doak for £25m
13:05 , Alex Dakers
Liverpool attacker Ben Doak looks set to join Bournemouth.
The Guardian reports that the 19-year-old Scot is viewed as a potential replacement for Dango Ouattara, who is nearing a move to Brentford.
It is said the final package for Doak – who Liverpool paid £600,000 in compensation to sign from Celtic in 2022 – will be around £25million.
Doak spent last season on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough, scoring three goals and assisting seven more in 24 appearances before a hamstring injury cut his campaign short.
Porto have also made an approach, according to Ben Jacobs, with Sky Sports reporting that Stuttgart were also interested.
Could this move free up vital funds to help Liverpool finance another bid for Alexander Isak?
Nkunku sale could help fund Simons and Garnacho to Chelsea
13:00 , Alex Dakers
Christopher Nkunku’s exit could pave the way for Chelsea to land Xavi Simons.
Offloading Nicolas Jackson, meanwhile, would also help the Blues to step up their pursuit of Manchester United’s wantaway winger Alejandro Garnacho.
That has always been the plan for Chelsea, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
Talks have reportedly been opened today with Bayern Munich over Nkunku, with the Blues preferring a sale despite the Bundesliga champions initially considering a loan – although Chelsea’s asking price is said to have dropped “well south of £40million” at present.
Meanwhile, Jackson has been linked to clubs across Europe this summer but there have not been many concrete developments lately on that front.
Sunderland nearing deal for PSG defender Mukiele
12:55 , Alex Dakers
Sunderland are said to be closing in on a deal for Paris Saint-Germain defender Nordi Mukiele.
The move has been given the green light by the club, Fabrizio Romano says, and fellow journalist Fabrice Hawkins reports that the player has said yes to joining the Black Cats upon their return to the Premier League.
Mukiele, 27, has experience playing across the backline as well as on the right-hand side of midfield.
He was loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen last season, making 24 appearances in all competitions.
The Frenchman would be the latest in a long line of new arrivals at Sunderland this season, including new club captain Granit Xhaka, ex-Brighton winger Simon Adingra, Chelsea loanee Marc Guiu and fellow defenders Arthur Masuaka – formerly of West Ham – and Reinildo.
Newcastle to step up pursuit of Isak replacement Wissa
12:50 , Alex Dakers
As expected, Newcastle will accelerate their pursuit of Yoane Wissa, with Brentford set to sign Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth.
Brentford have had a club-record £42.5million bid accepted for Ouattara, who has travelled to London to undergo a medical.
Newcastle are understood to be weighing up a £35m bid for Wissa – who scored 19 Premier League goals last season – and will now move to finalise a deal for the 28-year-old.
Brentford want a deal closer to their £50m valuation and would like a £35m fixed fee plus £5m in add-ons to sanction the departure of their all-time Premier League goal-scorer.
Wissa, who has made clear his desire to play Champions League football, has been left out of Brentford’s squad for their opening Premier League game of the season away to Nottingham Forest.
It comes as Newcastle look to solve their Alexander Isak problem, with the Swede on strike and out of the squad for their opening Premier League game against Aston Villa as he angles for a move to Liverpool.

ICYMI: Brentford agree club record deal for Ouattara
12:45 , Alex Dakers
In case you missed it, Brentford have also agreed a club record deal worth up to £42.5million for Bournemouth forward Dango Ouattara.
That news emerged late last night after it became clear that the 23-year-old Burkina Faso international was keen to leave the south coast, having not had a prominent role under Andoni Iraola.
Ouattara is set to travel to west London today for a medical, with the move – technically designed to replace the departed Bryan Mbeumo – also potentially unlocking Yoane Wissa’s desired exit to Newcastle.

Silva tight-lipped on Rodrigo Muniz’s Fulham future
12:15 , Alex Dakers
Marco Silva has confirmed that Rodrigo Muniz will be involved in Fulham’s Premier League opener despite rumours of a move away from Craven Cottage.
Muniz, who scored 11 Premier League goals last season, has attracted interest from Serie A side Atalanta, with reports claiming an offer worth £34million (€40m) had been lodged.
Fulham and Atalanta are yet to enter club-to-club talks, with the English club adamant that they want to keep hold of Muniz.
Now, it appears that Muniz – unlike Brentford’s Yoane Wissa – will play a part in his side’s opening fixture this weekend despite uncertainty over his future.
“Rodrigo is in contention for Saturday. Offers and bids we’ve received – I will not comment,” Silva said, remaining tight-lipped on any interest in the Brazilian.
Standard Sport understands that Fulham would only entertain offers for Muniz if they signed a replacement for the striker.

Inside Palace’s new recruitment team as transfer spending stalls
12:00 , Alex Dakers
In many ways, it has so far felt like a standard and unremarkable transfer window for Crystal Palace, Oliver Glasner having stated publicly his frustration at slow movement and the lack of spending. Some things never change.
Behind the scenes, things have changed for the Eagles in the recruitment department.
Yet Palace’s only signings so far have been back-up goalkeeper Walter Benítez, for free, and the Croatia left-back Borna Sosa. The £2million they spent on Sosa makes the Eagles one of the lowest-spending clubs across Europe’s major leagues in a summer that has yet to really get going for them.
In the here and now, Glasner wanted two attackers and two defenders to be signed this summer. Granted, Palace do tend to move late in the market, and often that means paying below market rate for a player, but it remains to be seen over the coming fortnight whether the gaffer is fully granted his wish.

Isak latest as Slot says Liverpool need ‘at least one more attacker’
11:40 , Alex Dakers
Liverpool need “at least one more attacker” to bolster the first-team squad, manager Arne Slot has said, despite the big-money arrivals of Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz this summer.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the Reds’ boss said his side “mostly won games by [a] one goal difference” last season.
Wirtz, Slot says, should help Liverpool create more, as should full-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, while new No9 Ekitike is expected to help take some goal-scoring burden off of Mohamed Salah’s shoulders.
Amid ongoing links with Newcastle’s wantaway striker Alexander Isak, the Dutch manager added that Ekitike is “mainly” a No9 that “could also play from the left or play together with another No9”
He continued: “Its clear that with Darwin [Nunez] and Luis Diaz gone, and Diogo [Jota] I need to mention as well, that we need to have one more attacker at least.”
It comes as the Premier League champions continue to pursue Isak, who has reportedly moved out of his Newcastle home, vowed never to play for the Magpies again, and been left out of the club’s season opener.
Newcastle, however, have made clear that they don’t wish to sell the Swede, at least until they have landed a suitable replacement for him.
In that respect, Yoane Wissa is said to be among the top targets at St James’ Park, and the Brentford forward could soon be free to leave west London after the Bees snapped up Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth.
Arsenal and Spurs target Eze’s £68m release clause expires today
11:35 , Alex Dakers
A reminder that Eberechi Eze’s £68million release clause at Crystal Palace expires today, August 15.
Standard Sport understands the release clause remains active until that date, when the Premier League season begins with Liverpool hosting Bournemouth.
Arsenal are aware of the situation and hold an ongoing interest in Eze, who is said to be happy at Palace but open to a move to the Emirates if the opportunity materialises. The Gunners may, however, need to offload players to fund a move for him.
Fierce rivals Tottenham are also in the race and are thought to be preparing a bid for the England international.
Separately, Spurs are still pursuing Manchester City winger Savinho as well as some other squad-strengthening players.
Frank: Tottenham targeting multiple deals amid Eze talks
11:20 , Alex Dakers
Thomas Frank has insisted Tottenham are looking to strengthen across the squad, not just in the No10 position.
Spurs have held talks with Crystal Palace over a move for Eberechi Eze as they look to fill the gap created by long-term injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.
However, ahead of Saturday’s Premier League opener at home against Burnley, Frank remains short of options to provide that creativity in midfield.

City reject second Spurs bid for Savinho
11:10 , Alex Dakers
Manchester City have reportedly rejected a €70million (£60.3m) second bid from Tottenham for Savinho.
That comes from Spanish outlet Diario AS, possibly due to the fact that Real Madrid forward Rodrygo is said to be target for City if they sell his countryman to Spurs.
It was reported yesterday that the Etihad club wanted around £67m for their player.
Savinho’s agents are apparently heading to Europe from Brazil in order to secure the 21-year-old winger the “transfer he wants” from City to Spurs, according to Daily Mail Sport.
Roma wait on Sancho as United ‘prepared to accept’ £20m bid

Newcastle to ‘move quickly’ for Wissa after Brentford sign Ouattara
11:00 , Alex Dakers
Newcastle are expected to move quickly to finalise a deal for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa after the Bees complete their signing of Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara.
According to Sky Sports, Wissa’s representatives are in the UK and were assured Brentford would engage with the Magpies if they were able to land attacking reinforcements – even though Ouattara is viewed more as a replacement for Bryan Mbeumo than Wissa himself.
A fee must also still be agreed between the two clubs, despite Wissa – who will miss Brentford’s season opener this weekend amid the speculation surrounding his future – pushing for the move to St James’ Park.
It is thought that Newcastle picking up the DR Congo international, as they have been trying to do for weeks, could open the door for their own wantaway striker Alexander Isak to join Liverpool.
Maresca confirms Chelsea transfer plan after Colwill injury
10:40 , Alex Dakers
Enzo Maresca has made it clear he wants Chelsea to sign a new centre-back after losing Levi Colwill to injury.
Colwill has become a key player for the Blues but suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in training this week and is expected to miss the majority of the season.
Though Chelsea have a raft of centre-back options, Maresca has made it clear he believes better quality is needed, in the form of a new signing.
It comes just weeks after they spent an initial £37million on Ajax defender Jorrel Hato.
“He is okay,” Maresca said of Colwill. “He is aware that he has to be out for a long time. It is a big loss for us. You know how important Levi has been for us last season, for the way we want to play.
“We said many times that we are able to create chances and to attack in the right way if we are able to build in the right way. Levi was a huge part of our build-up and now he is out and we are going to try to find a different solution.”

Bayern eye Chelsea outcast with Blues’ fire sale set to continue
10:36 , Alex Dakers
Bayern Munich are weighing up a bid to sign Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea.
It has been known for some time that Bayern have been monitoring Nkunku this summer, and they could move for him once they have completed the sale of fellow French forward Kingsley Coman to Al Nassr for around £30million.
Nkunku is not part of Chelsea’s plans this season despite his reasonably significant involvement for the Blues during their Club World Cup-winning campaign.
The 27-year-old has interest from elsewhere in Europe and Chelsea are determined to sell him rather than loan him out. A return to his former club RB Leipzig is not currently on the cards.
Per Fabrizio Romano on Friday morning, though, an Nkunku to Bayern deal is now “on”.
It could free up funds to help the Blues in their pursuit of Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho, or…

Forest’s busy Thursday: Hutchinson, McAtee, Kalimuendo and Luiz
10:29 , Alex Dakers
Nottingham Forest have been busy on the eve of the new Premier League season, agreeing deals worth a reported £37.5million and £30million for Ipswich Town winger Omari Hutchinson and Manchester City midfielder James McAtee.
The Tricky Trees are also said to be closing in on the capture of French striker Arnaud Kalimuendo from Rennes, who – like Hutchinson – has been targeted by Premier League rivals and opening day opponents Brentford this summer.
And according to Sky Sports, Forest have approached Juventus over a deal for former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz as well.
That all emerged yesterday afternoon!
Plus, this morning, Fabrizio Romano reports the club is in contact with the camp of AC Milan and USA midfielder Yunus Musah.
No change on Isak situation
10:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Newcastle have hinted that Alexander Isak will not feature in their Premier League opener against Aston Villa amid interest from Liverpool.
Isak’s future is uncertain at the moment as he is at the centre of a transfer saga after Liverpool saw an £110million offer rejected by the Magpies earlier in the month.
The Swede has since been left to train alone since withdrawing from the club’s pre-season trip to Singapore and South Korea citing a thigh injury.
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe has revealed that he wants Isak to return to training and be available for selection but has all-but confirmed the striker will not be included in the squad for the game at Villa Park.

Baleba statement
09:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne
Fabian Hurzeler says he’s “very, very, very confident” that Carlos Baleba will remain a Brighton player this season, writes Sam Tabuteau.

“It’s unexpected, even if it’s normal for Fulham to sign players late. I don’t go in that direction. I know what we want, and the plan was there.

Thursday 14 August 2025 12:38 , Alex Dakers

“In my opinion Jeremie and Conor are similar, but Jeremie is maybe better in one-v-ones than Conor,” the Dutch manager said.
“If you play against these two, you know you have to be aware of them, so maybe Mo [Salah] gets more space. If you isolate them, it is difficult [for the opposition] as well.
Slot added: “So, it’s different types but Trent [Alexander-Arnold] proved it with Mo, he brought the best out of Mo and we think the same will happen with Conor and Jeremie.”
