A political group led by Beto O’Rourke, a former Texas congressman, has also stepped in to support the cause. He noted that while the costs of the walkout are high, the long-term implications of a favorable redistricting map for Republicans are even more significant. “When you think about it in the context of what Donald Trump has to gain and what Democrats might lose in the short term, it’s just not even close to the cost of trying to win back either these races or a bunch of other races in the country.”
