A Journey of Music, Motherhood, and Resilience

Lisa McHugh’s life has been a whirlwind of music, family, and personal growth. From the moment she first met Milo, her son, when he was just seven months old, to now being a mother of two, Lisa has navigated the challenges of balancing her career with the demands of parenthood. Her journey has not always been easy, but it has shaped her into the strong, resilient woman she is today.

Lisa, along with her husband Nathan Khan and their children Milo and Hallie, recently visited the five-star Lough Erne Resort in Fermanagh. The setting was perfect for a photoshoot that captured the essence of family life. While Nathan took care of Hallie, Lisa focused on her work, with Milo sitting nearby, content to watch his mother at work. This blend of family and professional life is a daily reality for Lisa, who continues to thrive in both worlds.

One of the most difficult chapters in Lisa’s life came when Hallie faced health challenges shortly after her birth. Born prematurely, Hallie needed extra care and spent time in the neonatal unit. The early months were tough, with ongoing health issues that left Lisa and her family in constant worry. “Having her in hospital at such a young age was definitely traumatic,” Lisa recalls. “It’s something we’re still processing.” However, through perseverance and medical support, Hallie eventually turned a corner, and today, she is a happy and healthy child.

Balancing motherhood with a career in country music has not been without its struggles. Lisa admits that the early days of her career were filled with uncertainty. “I’ve been stung before,” she says, referring to the challenges of navigating the industry. But over time, she has become more confident in her decisions, learning to recognize what aligns with her values and goals. “I used to say ‘yes’ to everything, but now I know what’s important and what’s not.”

Despite the challenges, Lisa finds joy in her work. She recently returned to the stage after welcoming Hallie, performing at the Ulster Hall in a sold-out show. “It’s been hectic, but I’m glad I took on the work,” she says. Performing allows her to connect with her fans and express herself creatively. She also enjoys the balance of being home with her children while still pursuing her passion.

Lisa’s perspective on life has shifted significantly since becoming a mother. “Being home with Milo, Hallie, and Nathan has changed me as a person,” she reflects. “It’s made me realize what’s important and what’s not.” This shift has influenced her music, which now carries a deeper sense of authenticity.

Her new song, Tennessee, was inspired by a recent trip to Nashville, where she spent two weeks away from her family. “It was the first time America felt so far away,” she says. “But it wouldn’t put me off going again—I just wouldn’t go for as long.” The song captures the emotions of being away from home, and the video was shot with her kids, making it a deeply personal project.

Looking ahead, Lisa has big dreams. She wants to expand her presence in Europe and continue growing her career in America. She also believes that incorporating local talent in major concerts could be beneficial. “It would be magic if they did,” she says.

As she celebrates three years of marriage with Nathan, Lisa reflects on how much her life has changed. “It’s insane that it’s been three years,” she says. “It feels like a quick time, but it’s been a rollercoaster.”

For Lisa, the journey has been about growth, resilience, and finding balance. Through every challenge, she has remained true to herself, embracing the beauty of family and the power of music.
